CompHealth surveyed 1,000 physicians about their views on locum tenens work. The study showed that while 90 percent of providers are familiar with the concept, the majority of them are unclear about the benefits. 

When choosing a locum tenens staffing firm to work with, physicians ranked compensation as the top factor, followed by the number of jobs available. The physician-recruiter relationship was a distant third factor. 

Though compensation is paramount, locum tenens physicians also value competent support services such as licensing, credentialing, travel, and housing. Physicians are also looking for staffing agencies that cover malpractice insurance and place them in the right type of job setting.
