The position has flexibility, with clinical responsibilities in one or more of the regions covered by the Regional Cancer Treatment Service. The service provides inpatient and outpatient hematology care and manages a wide range of hematological conditions including acute leukemia, lymphoma, autologous stem cell transplantation, plasma exchange, hemostasis, and thrombosis. Inpatient care is delivered at the hospital. Outpatient clinics are run at various hospitals around the region.

The department maintains an active clinical research portfolio including clinical trials. The service is an approved FRACP training center and undertakes active post graduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level. Multidisciplinary case meetings (tumour boards) are held locally and regionally. Applicants should be trained in Clinical Hematology.

The North Island of New Zealand is known for its volcanic activity, national parks, and cosmopolitan cities. Surrounded by bays and islands, it’s known as “the City of Sails.” At its southern tips is harbourside capital Wellington, home to the national museum, Te Papa.
