Meet Shawn, a traveling occupational therapistApril is National OT Month, and we are celebrating the role of occupational therapists by spotlighting several OTs throughout the month. From a variety of backgrounds and experience, they all share the love of helping their patients live a better quality of life. Shawn: Traveling occupational therapist Shawn enjoys the excitement of visiting new places and using his therapy skills in different kinds of settings, so when two of his friends who work as traveling therapists for CompHealth recommended he give it a try, he decided to follow their advice. He began traveling last September and has found his decision to be a good one. Relatively new to traveling, one of the traveling assignments he particularly enjoyed is at the Florida Institute for Neurologic Rehab in Wauchula, Florida. It was his first opportunity to do work related to brain injury, which was a wonderful learning experience for him. While on this assignment, he worked with two friends in physical therapy. Together they made new friends at the facility and enjoyed going out on their free time with people who shared their love of golf, sports events and fishing. Shawn's traveling advice? "Pick settings and locations you think you will enjoy. Taking an assignment you're not happy with from the get-go can impact your long-term experience," he says.
