How do physicians combat burnout? It's a common topic of discussion with no easy answer. We recently partnered with a top market research company to survey 1,000 physicians about workplace stress, the ability to get proper rest, and the impact on patient care. A few highlights from the survey are showcased in the graph. What ideas have you heard, or discussed, about how to reduce burnout?

Here were 4 commonly suggested ways to reduce stress:
  • 45% said changes in routine can help avoid monotony
  • 28% said working on new cases
  • 25% said the opportunity to aid under-served areas
  • 10% said having the chance to work high-risk cases
Could full-time staff benefit from the temporary coverage options offered by locum tenens? I recently wrote about this subject for HealthNewsDigest.com. A locum tenens physician fulfills assignments for a variety of reasons, and often works side-by-side with permanent physicians. This approach benefits the facility by creating flexibility and extended coverage for patients. We will discuss additional discoveries from our survey in future posts. In the meantime, find some time to relax and take care of yourself; it can benefit you and all those you affect in your personal and professional life.
