The aging physician population is faced with a myriad of questions that need to be answered as they close in on retirement; one of those being, "Am I ready to retire?" A down economy, healthcare reform, and life transitions are forcing a reevaluation of retirement plans. Independent physicians, specifically those running a private practice, are more and more looking to transition to an employment model and the security of a steady paycheck, rather than go through the process of contract renegotiation. There are also those who would like to continue practicing but without the burden of administrative responsibilities that accompany running a practice.
