With today’s competitive job market, facilities need to adapt to the changes in order to stand out among the crowd.

As a clinician, I have used more than five electronic medical record (EMR) systems in my career. I have experienced a full-on practice implementation as well as a transition from one system to another, all while continuing to service patients and provide direct care. Maintaining patient flow, documentation and care coordination is a challenge when you are navigating software that is not always intuitive.

There is much dialogue in the media today discussing the adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). Due to possible Medicare payment penalties for non-adoption and payment incentives for adoption in the coming years due to the 2009 HITECH Act, the debate is heating up. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal demonstrates the amount of work still to be done with EMRs and highlights the mentality of those not yet partially or fully integrated
