The Accountable Care Act has made health insurance available to millions who didn’t have access to it before — but the shortage of doctors may make it harder for them to get the care they need. Nurse-led clinics, run by nurse practitioners instead of doctors, may be a viable solution.

A 2011 study commissioned by the NCCPA showed that 84 percent of physicians working with certified PAs said the physician-PA partnership allows them to spend more time with patients who have critical or complex issues.
