Last fall, a variety of healthcare educators, practitioners, and industry experts contributed in a roundtable-type interview with Healthcare Traveler on the aging US population. They discuss the impact on the various healthcare settings and workload for providers as more and more senior patients need care. Shari Held writes, "...the first wave of the 78 million 'baby boomers' turned 65 in 2011. Each year for the next 18 years, many more will hit this mark." From nursing to therapy, It's clear that having a workforce skilled in geriatric care is both a challenge and an opportunity. The need is rising quickly, but that means job opportunities will continue to grow. Sandra Raehl, president of CompHealth's travel therapy division, comments in the article: "My greatest advice to current providers is to continue to expand your skills to be ready to meet the demand."
